چکیده

We derive a stable technique, based upon matrix pencils, for the reconstruction of (or approximation by) polygonal shapes from moments. We point out that this problem can be considered the dual of 2 D numerical quadrature over polygonal domains. An analysis of the sensitivity of the problem is presented along with some numerical examples illustrating the relevant points. Finally, an application to the problem of gravimetry is explored where the shape of a gravitationally anomalous region is to be recovered from measurements of its exterior gravitational eld.

Moments of Nmr Absorption Lines from the Free Induction Decay or Echo of Solids*

A new method Is presented for determining the moments of nuclear magnetic resonance absorption lines from the shape of either the free Induction decay or that of the echo. Unlike previously used techniques, this method does not require the assumption of an analytical function for the lineshape or the fitting of the experimental decay with a polynomial. A fast, suitably precise and numerically s...

Determination of Stability Domains for Nonlinear Dynamical Systems Using the Weighted Residuals Method

Finding a suitable estimation of stability domain around stable equilibrium points is an important issue in the study of nonlinear dynamical systems. This paper intends to apply a set of analytical-numerical methods to estimate the region of attraction for autonomous nonlinear systems. In mechanical and structural engineering, autonomous systems could be found in large deformation problems or c...

Time-Discontinuous Finite Element Analysis of Two-Dimensional Elastodynamic Problems using Complex Fourier Shape Functions

This paper reformulates a time-discontinuous finite element method (TD-FEM) based on a new class of shape functions, called complex Fourier hereafter, for solving two-dimensional elastodynamic problems. These shape functions, which are derived from their corresponding radial basis functions, have some advantages such as the satisfaction of exponential and trigonometric function fields in comple...

The method of fundamental solutions for inverse obstacle acoustic scattering

In this paper we propose a simple method for detecting (shape, size and location) a scatterer embedded in a host acoustic homogeneous medium from scant measurements of the scattered acoustic pressure in the vicinity (near-or far-field) of the obstacle. We develop a nonlinear constrained minimization regularized method of fundamental solutions for obtaining the numerical solution of the inverse ...

Inverting a multidimensional shape from moments

The problem of reconstructing a function and/or its domain given its moments is encountered in many areas. Several applications from diverse areas such as probability and statistics [4], signal processing [10], computed tomography [8, 9], and inverse potential theory [1, 11] (magnetic and gravitational anomaly detection) can be cited, to name just a few. We can expound on some of these applicat...
